I’ve had some real wins over the last three years by building pressure in public through organising and negotiating outcomes behind closed doors.
And I’m only just getting started.
Change doesn’t happen overnight and we’ve still got a long way to go. I work to secure reforms and improve legislation bit by bit in Canberra while using the resources I have as your local MP to make change happen locally.
I’m proud of what we’ve managed to achieve together and I can’t wait to keep fighting for you down in Canberra.
If you vote Greens this election, we’ll keep Dutton out and push Labor to deliver more for everyday people.
⛈️ Helped locals in emergencies
I mobilised over 150 volunteers as part of our local Greens climate response team to prepare locals and clean up after Cyclone Alfred. We helped fill thousands of sandbags, delivered groceries and sandbags to aged care and disabled people’s homes, served meals to streets without power, coordinated a fleet of utes to take damaged furniture and green waste to the dump, cleaned up homes, and more.
🏥 Better funded health services
I’ve delivered an additional $600,000 in funding to our local frontline health services — including for dedicated mental health care at Brisbane Youth Service and delivered Open Doors’ first trans youth health specialist — and I’ve secured a Medicare urgent care clinic for Brisbane’s inner north. Greens pressure also pushed Labor and the LNP to both commit to tripling the bulk-billing incentive this election, making GPs more accessible to everyone.
🌭 Provided 20,000 free meals
I’ve given up over $60,000 of my salary to pay for free community dinners my team and I host across Brisbane every week! I’ve brought neighbours together by hosting over 110 local events and I’ve distributed tens of thousands of dollars worth of free food through my community pantry.
🏡 Won $3.5 billion for social housing
The Greens secured the single largest investment in public and community housing in more than a decade (and six times what Labor had planned to spend). We also secured an extra $500 million to give more than 100,000 public and community homes life changing upgrades to insulation, air conditioning and bill saving rooftop solar and batteries.
💰 Secured $1.2 million in extra grants
I’ve secured nearly $1.2 million in extra funding for local community groups and frontline services. I also donated an extra $16,000 from my salary to small groups who can’t access other grants — like Fortitude Valley RLFC, Hendra State School, WWILD Sexual Violence Service, Banks Street Community Kindy and more.
✈️ Reduced flight noise
I’ve negotiated improvements on flight noise from Brisbane Airport to push more flights over the water instead of over peoples’ homes. The Greens introduced a bill for a late night flight curfew and cap on flights and pushed both the government and the airport to take more action.
🌳 Stopped public money going to fossil fuels
I’ve made sure government investment funds can’t invest in fossil fuel projects anywhere in the world, keeping taxpayers' money out of coal and gas. These investment funds had previously spent around $1.5 billion on destructive coal, oil and gas projects and that money’s now going to go towards renewable energy and critical minerals.
🗳️ Brisbane voted Yes for the Voice
I’m proud to have joined so many locals in campaigning for Yes and I personally spoke to thousands of Queenslanders about First Nations justice, Truth, Treaty and Voice. Together, we helped make Brisbane one of only three electorates in Queensland to vote Yes to the Voice.
💬 Listened to locals
My team and I are out speaking with locals almost every weekend. Since the last election, we’ve spoken to more than 40,000 locals about the issues that matter most to them. I knock on doors and go to markets every week that I’m not in Canberra, I run annual surveys and regular town halls on hot topics. I use all that feedback to figure out what I should focus on.
💧 Protected water systems from gas fracking
The Greens closed loopholes in our environment laws that meant gas fracking projects could sail through without any environmental assessments on how they’d impact water systems. Now all fracking has to go through the legal system and communities have a right to oppose them.
🧑💻 Won better rights for workers
The Greens enshrined the right to disconnect and super on paid parental leave in law, criminalised wage and super theft and legislated a pathway for casuals to become permanent employees.
🤝 Helped everyday people with life’s challenges
My team and I have helped more than 4,000 people deal with life’s hardest challenges — from NDIS, pension and veterans claims, to visa and immigration problems and securing public, social and crisis housing for locals.
⚡️ Locked in $1.7b to lower energy bills
I negotiated new funding for an electrification package to help low-income people and renters to get off gas, switch over to all electric appliances, heating and cooling, get solar panels and batteries, and save money on their power bills.
🎓 Secured HECS reduction and fairer tax cuts
The Greens pressured Labor into wiping billions of dollars off of HECS debt balances, and made the Stage 3 tax cuts fairer with less for the top end of town and more for ordinary people.
